IT TAKES AWHILE TO PREPARE THIS DISH BUT IT IS SO GOOD.MY FAMILY AND CHURCH MEMBERS JUST RAVE OVER THESE BEANS.

Ingredients

  • 4 lb
    pinto beans
  • 1 lb
    ground hamburger meat
  • 1 lb
    ground pork meat
  • 1/2 lb
    steak diced whatever you have
  • 1/2 lb
    smoke bacon diced
  • 1/2 lb
    link summer sausage diced
  • 1/2 lb
    ham diced
  • 1/2 lb
    salt pork diced
  • 1 large
    green bell pepper diced(i buy veggies already diced
  • 2 large
    onions diced (i buy veggies already diced)
  • 4 clove
    garlic chopped
  • 1 can(s)
    petite tomatoes (do not drain)
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • dash(es)
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 dash(es)
    tabasco sauce or more if you like spicey
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter
  • 8 c
    water
  • SWEET CORNBREAD

  • 1 c
    yellow cornmeal
  • 1 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1/4 c
    melted butter
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 pkg
    jiffy yellow cake mix

How to Make BECKY'S HOBO BEANS AND SWEET CORNBREAD

Step-by-Step

  1. 1 put rinsed beans in a large stock pot,cover beans with water 8 cups and bring to a boil.Turn heat down to medium add bacon,salt pork and ham.Cover and cook while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.Beans should cook a minimum of 90 minutes before adding meat mixture.
  2. Brown hamburger until no longer pink add peppers,onions,garlic celery add salt and pepper.Set aside
  3. Brown ground pork it should not need oil or butter to cook about 6 minutes and drain.Add to the hamburger mixture.
  4. add butter to skillet and melt over medium heat.add steak saute until no pink shows on the outside,about 5 mins.add steak to hamburger mixture.
  5. In butter skillet add tomatoes,ketchup,brown sugar and tobasco sauce.Heat until sugar disloves.Pour into meat mixture.
  6. After beans have cooked 90 minutes add all ingredients and cook on mdeium low heat for another hour.
  7. There is alot of work to these beans but the outcome is well worth it.I will be posting a picture this week as I will be cooking these for our Church Dinner Sunday.

    Serve with sweet cornbread,a salad and dessert.Enjoy!!!!!!
  8. SWEET CORNBREAD DIRECTIONS:

    Mix cake mix according to directions, being careful not to beat air into mixture. Mix the rest of the ingredients and gently fold in cake batter. pour into two greased 8 inch pie pans or a 13-by-9-by2-inch baking pan. bake in a preheated 400-degree oven until lightly browned.
