I love this soup and when I was growing up I only got it in a can (bean and bacon soup) but when I started cooking I found recipes but they did not taste like I remember so I came up with this one and I really love it and I hope you will too.

Ingredients
- 2 cups dry navy beans
- 1/2 pound browned bacon (crumbled up and set aside)
- 3 small carrots, minced
- 3 stalks celery with leaves minced
- 1 med. onion minced
- 2-4 cloves of garlic minced
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
- 6 ounces tomato paste
- dash red pepper flakes
- 6 cups water
- 2 cups ham stock water
- 1 tablespoon wine vinegar
- 3-4 drops of liquid smoke
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon sugar

Step 1Soak your beans overnight and discard water. Place all ingredients EXCEPT wine vinegar, liquid smoke, and salt and pepper and sugar in a large kettle

Step 2Simmer till beans are tender, Mine took about 3 1/2 hours. Puree 2 cups of the soup and return it to the kettle.

Step 3Now add wine vinegar and liquid smoke and sugar. Mix well, then season soup with salt and pepper to your liking. That's it
