I love this soup and when I was growing up I only got it in a can (bean and bacon soup) but when I started cooking I found recipes but they did not taste like I remember so I came up with this one and I really love it and I hope you will too.

prep time 15 Min
cook time 3 Hr 30 Min
method Stove Top
yield 4-6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dry navy beans
  • 1/2 pound browned bacon (crumbled up and set aside)
  • 3 small carrots, minced
  • 3 stalks celery with leaves minced
  • 1 med. onion minced
  • 2-4 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • dash red pepper flakes
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups ham stock water
  • 1 tablespoon wine vinegar
  • 3-4 drops of liquid smoke
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

How To Make always better when its homemade

  • Step 1
Soak your beans overnight and discard water. Place all ingredients EXCEPT wine vinegar, liquid smoke, and salt and pepper and sugar in a large kettle
  • Step 2
Simmer till beans are tender, Mine took about 3 1/2 hours. Puree 2 cups of the soup and return it to the kettle.
