prep time 12 Hr
cook time 6 Hr
method Air Fryer
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1-2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 pounds beef top round steak, boneless
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce, low sodium
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 onion powder
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring

How To Make sweet and spicy beef jerky

  • Step 1
Cut the steak into the desired thickness (roughly 1/8 inch) I buy the top round that is already thin sliced so it saves me a step!
  • Step 2
Mix all of the ingredients into a large bowl (minus the steak) and whisk to combine
  • What the bowl should look like before properly coating in marinade
    Step 3
Transfer the strips of steak along with the marinade into a ziplock bag and squeeze out as much air as possible. Massage to combine the marinade into the meat. If you don’t have a ziplock, use a large bowl tightly wrapped with cling wrap or foil
  • Thinly sliced steak fully coated in sweet and spicy marinade ready to sit overnight In the fridge
    Step 4
Marinate at least a couple of hours but preferably overnight for best flavor
  • Step 5
When you’re ready to dehydrate, take steak out of the bag or bowl, pat it dry (I use hand towels for better absorption and simply wash them after)
  • Step 6
Align strips of steak onto the racks In your dehydrator
  • Step 7
Cook for roughly 6 hours at 160 degrees (Longer time will be needed for thicker sliced steak) there’s no need to flip your steak!
  • Dang good homemade jerky! Pat yourself on the back and enjoy!!
    Step 8
When it’s done your jerky should be dry and a little chewy and perfect! It should look something like this
