Ingredients

  • 2-1/4 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup dark molasses
  • 3/4 cup oleo (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar (in small bowl) sit to side

How To Make soft ginger cookies

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350. Sift together flour, ginger, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl cream together oleo, 1 c sugar and egg until fluffy. Stir in water and molasses. Gradually stir in dry ingredients. Shape dough into walnut size balls – place balls onto ungreased cookie sheet and flatten slightly with bottom of drinking glass dipped in reserve sugar. Bake 8 to 10 minutes – allow cookies to cool before storing in airtight container.
  • Step 2
The longer these last the better they taste. Makes 2 – 3 dozen (depending on size of the balls you make). I make these all the time – everyone loves them!!
