I have made these tortilla's in the past and my Grandma & Mom has me making these. Fresh Tortillas, are better then store bought that what I was told. Hope everyone enjoys them!

Ingredients For rachel's tortillas ( scratch)

  • YOU NEED A ROLLING PIN
  • YOU NEED A LARGE BOWL
  • YOU NEED A CASK IRON OR A FRYING PAN
  • 4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    lard
  • 2 c
    hot water

    NOTE:FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DO NOT HAVE A LARGE CASK IRON SKILLET, YOU CAN USE A FLAT LARGE FRYING PAN TO USE FOR YOUR TORTILLAS TO COOK ON. NOTE:PREHEAT PAN AT A MED TO MED-HIGH HEAT

    With a large bowl add your dry and mix it. Then add your lard & pour little by little hot water as you mixing by hand. Form into a large ball.

    Pinch off 2-3 inch peaces of your dough and put back into the bowl cont with the rest of your dough.

    Then you sprinkle flour on it and cover with a dish towel and wait for it to rise. Wait for it 30 mins and after the 30 mins is up, then form into large dough again.

    Nead your dough into a shape of a log, 3-4 inches around. With your hand pinch off the size you desire your tortillas. Use a rolling pill and roll out your tortilla.. If it sticks add a pinch of flour to keep it from sticking. After you have shape it into a circle put it on your pan and wait for it to brown on both sides.
