Northern Europeans enjoy open-faced sandwiches at tea-time or Abendbrot, as they say in Germany. Havarti matches well with lingonberries and dill. It's best on a hearty, rye or multi-grain bread.

    hearty, whole grain bread
  • 2 tsp
  • 8 slice
    havarti cheese
  • ·
    honey mustard
  • ·
    lingonberry preserves
  • ·
    dill, minced (or dry) for garnish

How to Make Open-faced Havarti Sandwiches


  1. Spread butter on each slice of bread. Cover bread with havarti cheese.
  2. Add a line of mustard between each slice of cheese. Put a bit of preserves in the center of each slice of cheese. Sprinkle dill over the top of each sandwich.
