my homemade chex snack mix

I remember having this as a teenager in the 70s. Very yummy. Then they came out with pre-made mix. It just wasn't the same as homemade. I recently started making it for game night, but I only stuck with the recipe for the first batch. Then I got creative. This is the recent product.

Ingredients

  • SEASONINGS
  • 1/2 cup ( 1 stick) salted butter
  • 1/2 cup bacon fat
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • MIX
  • 3 cups corn chex cereal
  • 3 cups rice chex cereal
  • 3 cups wheat chex cereal
  • 2 cups pretzel sticks
  • 1 cup cheddar sesame sticks
  • 1 cup garlic sesame sticks
  • 1 cup cajun sesame sticks
  • 1 cup mixed nuts
  • 1 cup cashew pieces

How To Make my homemade chex snack mix

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 250F
  • Step 2
    In a small sauce pan, over low heat, melt butter and bacon grease. Add spices and stir.
  • Step 3
    In a large (18") roasting pan gently mix dry ingredients.
  • Step 4
    Evenly pour seasonings over mix. Gently stir until mix is evenly coated.
  • Step 5
    Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread onto paper towels to cool.
  • Step 6
    Store in air tight container(s).
