Hot Hero Sandwiches

Laura Yoder

These sandwiches are great when you're entertaining a crowd. They can be made ahead and just pop them in the oven before you're ready to serve.

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
I love a great hero, and this did not disappoint. I like how this sandwich is heated, so the cheese gets nice and toasty. These would be great if you're having a crowd over. Or, if you're heading out for the night, make one for the hubby. All he'll have to do is heat it up. Easy peasy!

loaf of french or italian bread.
1 Tbsp
1/4 tsp
oregano, dried
1/4 lb
thin sliced smoked ham
1/4 lb
thin sliced hard salami
1/4 lb
thin sliced pepperoni from the deli
4-5 slice
swiss cheese
1 small
tomato thinly sliced
slices of sweet onion, rings seperated
shredded lettuce
salt and pepper
1 small
bottled italian dressing

How to Make Hot Hero Sandwiches

  • 1Cut loaf in half lengthwise. Spread butter on cut sides and sprinkle with oregano.
  • 2On bottom half, layer ham, salami, pepperoni, cheese, tomato, onion and lettuce. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste and drizzle with Italian dressing. Top with upper half of loaf.
  • 3Wrap tightly in aluminum foil and warm in a 300 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes to combine flavors. Remove from oven and cut into serving size peices. May be rewarmed in microwave oven.
