Ingredients

  • 4 cups old fashioned oats (not quick oats)
  • 1 cup sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 dash nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (not sugary breakfast syrup)
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup dried cherries (or dried blueberries)

How To Make easy granola

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
  • Step 2
In a large bowl, add oats, coconut, sunflower seeds, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Then mix until well combined.
  • Step 3
In a different microwave-safe bowl (or on the stovetop), combine the maple syrup, butter, and brown sugar. Microwave until melted and smooth. Once melted, add the vanilla and stir to combine.
  • Step 4
Add the butter mixture to the oat mixture and stir to coat the oats well.
  • Step 5
Spread the granola on a cooking oil-sprayed cookie sheet and bake 35-40 minutes; stirring a few times to make sure all parts get browned. It's done when the granola is all evenly browned.
  • Step 6
After removing the cookie sheet from the oven, you can stir in the dried cherries (or blueberries). Let cool. Store in an airtight container.
