This is a great appetizer or snack. It is best served at room temp or slightly warmed. It can be made ahead of time and re-heated or served right out of the oven. I often get asked to make this at pot lucks and family get togethers. This recipe can be halved to a 9X9" pan for a smaller portion.

Ingredients

  • 2 - 7oz cans diced ortega peppers
  • 1 - 7oz cans diced jalapenos (optional)
  • 4 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 cups monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 15 - eggs, beaten
  • dash - monteray steak seasoning
  • - optional: parsley flakes, freeze dried or fresh chives

How To Make chili cheese squares

  • Step 1
    Butter or spray a 9X13(or similar size)baking dish
  • Step 2
    Mix the ortega chili's with the Jalapenos and spread half the mixture on the bottom of the baking dish
  • Step 3
    Mix the eggs, cheese and herbs and seasoning together and spread half this mixture over the top of the chili's.
  • Step 4
    layer the rest of the chili mixture over the egg mixture
  • Step 5
    Top with the remaining egg/cheese mixture
  • Step 6
    Bake at 350F for 45 minutes
  • Step 7
    Cut into 2" squares
