This is a great appetizer or snack. It is best served at room temp or slightly warmed. It can be made ahead of time and re-heated or served right out of the oven. I often get asked to make this at pot lucks and family get togethers. This recipe can be halved to a 9X9" pan for a smaller portion.

2 - 7oz can(s)
diced ortega peppers
1 - 7oz can(s)
diced jalapenos (optional)
4 c
cheddar cheese, shredded
4 c
monterey jack cheese, shredded
eggs, beaten
monteray steak seasoning
optional: parsley flakes, freeze dried or fresh chives

How to Make Chili Cheese Squares


  • 1Butter or spray a 9X13(or similar size)baking dish
  • 2Mix the ortega chili's with the Jalapenos and spread half the mixture on the bottom of the baking dish
  • 3Mix the eggs, cheese and herbs and seasoning together and spread half this mixture over the top of the chili's.
  • 4layer the rest of the chili mixture over the egg mixture
  • 5Top with the remaining egg/cheese mixture
  • 6Bake at 350F for 45 minutes
  • 7Cut into 2" squares
