cinnamon sugared walnuts
I first got these as a "teacher gift" for Christmas almost 30 years ago. Then I just had to track down the mom and beg for the recipe! These make an EXCELLENT food gift for all the people you appreciate and/or love. I usually double the recipe (after buying a large bag of walnuts on sale or at a warehouse store.) I've packaged them in tea cups, coffee mugs, tiny decorated boxes or bags, tins, and little vintage dishes. If you come up with a beautiful idea, please post it. =^..^=

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 4 cups walnut halves
- 1 - egg white
How To Make cinnamon sugared walnuts
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. (PLEASE note the temperature is THREE HUNDRED degrees! These nuts will burn at a higher temperature. Don't ask how I know this...)
-
Step 2Spray a cookie sheet (with sides, unless you're really coordinated) with cooking spray.
-
Step 3Stir together the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.
-
Step 4Put the nuts in a large bowl and pour in the egg white. Mix together well. (OK, I admit I mix this recipe up with my hands.)
-
Step 5Pour the sugar & cinnamon mixture over the nuts and mix well.
-
Step 6Spread in a single layer on the prepared cookie sheet.
-
Step 7Bake for about 30 minutes (I check after 25 minutes) until the nuts are toasted and dry. Serve warm or cool completely.
-
Step 8Store in an air-tight container.
