ellen's extra spicy party mix

Updated on Sep 23, 2012

My late husband always liked Chex Party Mix a bit spicier than the original recipe, so over the years I tweaked and adjusted until I came up with this. Every time I open the oven door to stir the mix, my sinuses start to drain! Now THAT'S spicy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks real butter
  • 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce or more, to taste
  • 3 cups corn chex cereal
  • 3 cups wheat chex cereal
  • 3 cups cheerios cereal
  • 1 can (10 oz.) mixed nuts, lightly salted (with or without peanuts)
  • 1 can (7 oz.) shoestring potato sticks

How To Make ellen's extra spicy party mix

  • Step 1
    Assemble all ingredients.
  • Step 2
Melt butter in Dutch oven over low heat. Stir in seasoned salt, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Step 3
Add cereals, one cup at a time; stir. Add half the nuts and half the potato sticks; stir. Add remaining ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon until all pieces are coated. You may shake in a little more Worcestershire sauce if cereal seems dry.
  • Step 4
Pour mixture into 9x13" baking pan and heat in a 250-degree oven for a total of 1 hour. Stir mixture every 15 minutes.
  • Step 5
Spread mixture out on paper towels for a couple of minutes to cool and to absorb excess butter. Place in serving bowls and please remember to share!
