1 Tbsp olive oil
1 large shallot, finely diced
6 cloves garlic, minced
2 (28 oz) can whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes, crush tomatoes with your hands or a spoon
1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (or less if you don’t like a little heat)
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp sugar (optional)
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
