Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons white wine
- 1 - jalapeno pepper, chopped
- 6 ounces bacon
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons louisiana hot sauce
- 2 ounces bacon grease
- 2 quarts water
- 1 package frozen turnip greens
How To Make turnip greens

Step 1If using fresh greens, fill one side of sink with cold water and 1 teaspoon salt. Rinse leaves and place in other side of the sink. Repeat this process until leaves are clean. Cut stems from leaves and discard them.

Step 2Place 2 quarts water in a large pot. Add salt, jalapeno pepper, and bacon. Boil covered 20 minutes.

Step 3Place washed and cut greens in boiling water, a few leaves at a time. Pour sugar over top of greens. Add hot sauce and wine.

Step 4Cook greens over medium heat until tender (about 1-1/2 hours).

Step 5If desired, wash and dice turnips. Add to boiling water and cook with turnip greens.

Step 6Note: Turnip greens will cook down. If needed, add water, just to cover greens during cooking.
