My Mom's recipe - she used a pressure cooker but I find them not safe, I use the stove. She also used fresh green beans, but this recipe taste the same.

prep time 15 Min
cook time 45 Min
method ---
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1/4 pound Sliced Bacon
  • 3 cans Whole Green Beans (14.5 oz each - do not drain liquid)
  • 1/4 - medium Onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 3 cans pinto beans (14.5 oz each - do not drain liquid)
  • 3 cans sliced potatoes (14.5 oz each - do not drain liquid) (Mom used real potatoes, but this is easier)

How To Make southern green beans

  • Step 1
In a two quart sauce pan on medium heat, cook bacon until lightly brown but not crisp. When bacon has browned add green beans. Add salt, sugar, pepper, and mix well. Place onion on top of green beans, cover with a lid and bring to a light boil. Turn heat down to low and simmer beans for 45 minutes. Cooking the green beans for 45 minutes on a very low simmer will blend the flavors.
