    ham, chopped

    large head cabbage, coarsley chopped
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 tsp
  • ·
    cayenne, to taste
  • ·
    salt and pepper

How to Make Smothered Cabbage


  1. In a large heavy pot, cook onions and ham in oil over medium heat, until the onions are wilted, about 5 minutes. Add cabbage, water, sugar, cayenne, salt and pepper. Cover pot and cook, stirring occasionally about 30 minutes, or until the cabbage is soft and tender.
