savory baked onions
This is a variation of an old cookbook recipe. It has wonderful flavor and goes with many roasted meats. I love it with roast pork or turkey.

Ingredients
- 2-3 large onions
- 3/4 cup nuts, chopped (i use pecans)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3-4 dashes salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
How To Make savory baked onions
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel the onions. Cut off the top and bottom. Cut the onions into vertical eighths. Separate into strips.
-
Step 2Heat butter, nuts, sugar, salt, and pepper in baking dish. Add the sliced onion, tossing to coat with the butter/nut mixture. Cover tightly and bake for 1 hour.
-
Step 3Notes: the original recipe calls for 24 small pearl onions. I use mild white onions or regular yellow onions. You can cut the onion into slices or chunks, if you prefer. I like the thicker strips. I use a 1.5 or 2 qt. covered baking dish. Enjoy!
