Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage, mild and cut into 1" slices
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 - apples, peeled and quartered
  • 27 ounces saurkraut, undrained
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds

How To Make sauerkraut casserole

  • Step 1
    In a skillet, cook sausage and onion until sausage is brown and onion is tender; drain.
  • Step 2
    Stir in apples, sauerkraut, water, brown sugar and caraway seed.
  • Step 3
    Brown sugar and caraway seed.
  • Step 4
    Transfer to a 2-1/2 quart baking dish; Cover and bake at 350 for 1 hour.
  • Step 5
    Garnish with snipped parsley if desired.
