4 Tbspbacon grease
1 smallonion, chopped
1red cabbage, shredded (about 2 1/2 pounds)
1 largeapple, peeled, cored, quartered
How to Make Rote Kraut - Red Cabbage
- Heat bacon grease in Dutch oven. Add chopped onion and cook until golden. Transfer to pressure cooker, if using.
- Place shredded cabbage in pot and pour vinegar and water over. Season with salt and pepper and stir.
- Set apple quarters on top of cabbage and cook for about 4 minutes. (If cooking on stove, cook for about 20 minutes over medium heat or until cabbage is tender.)
