Ingredients
- 3 - large red onions, cut into 1/4 inch slices
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup self rising flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
How To Make red onion rings

Step 1Combine onions and buttermilk in a large bowl; soak for 5 minutes.

Step 2Meanwhile, pour oil into a large pot to a depth of 1-1/2 inches; heat to 375 degrees.

Step 3Mix flour, cornmeal, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Drain onion rings.

Step 4Working in small batches, add a few onion rings to flour mixture and turn to coat. Carefully add to oil. Fry until golden brown, 2 minutes. Drain on paper towel. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
