  • 1 small
head red cabbage, washed and shredded
  • 1 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 3 slice
    bacon, chopped
  • 1
    white onion, peeled and chopped

How to Make Red Cabbage Salad/Blaukrautsalat

  1. Put cabbage in a heat-proof glass or
ceramic bowl. Mix 1 tablespoon vinegar
with boiling water and pour mixture over
    cabbage. (Vinegar prevents cabbage from
losing color.) Let stand for a minute, then
drain and return cabbage to bowl.
  2. Saute bacon and onions until onions are
golden brown and bacon is crisp. Add to
    cabbage with remaining ingredients, toss,
    and serve immediately.
