My sister and I love this recipe. Goes well with pork.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 - tart apple, thinly sliced
  • 10 ounces finely shredded red cabbage
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds

How To Make quick apple & red sauerkraut

  • Step 1
    Heat oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  • Step 2
    Add onion & apple and cook stirring constantly,until it begins to brown,about 1-2 mins.
  • Step 3
    Add cabbage,vinegar & salt.
  • Step 4
    Cook,stirring frequently,for 2 mins.,or until cabbage has wilted.
  • Step 5
    Add the cider and caraway seeds & bring to a boil.
  • Step 6
    Lower the heat & simmer the kraut for about 10 mins., until the cabbage is tender and a few tbsp. of the juice remain.
