vegetable oil
1 small
red onion, sliced
tart apple, thinly sliced
10 oz
finely shredded red cabbage
1/4 c
apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 Tbsp
kosher salt
1 1/2 c
apple cider
1 tsp
caraway seeds

How to Make Quick Apple & Red Sauerkraut


  • 1Heat oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  • 2Add onion & apple and cook stirring constantly,until it begins to brown,about 1-2 mins.
  • 3Add cabbage,vinegar & salt.
  • 4Cook,stirring frequently,for 2 mins.,or until cabbage has wilted.
  • 5Add the cider and caraway seeds & bring to a boil.
  • 6Lower the heat & simmer the kraut for about 10 mins., until the cabbage is tender and a few tbsp. of the juice remain.
