Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 small
    red onion, sliced
  • 1
    tart apple, thinly sliced
  • 10 oz
    finely shredded red cabbage
  • 1/4 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 c
    apple cider
  • 1 tsp
    caraway seeds

How to Make Quick Apple & Red Sauerkraut

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onion & apple and cook stirring constantly,until it begins to brown,about 1-2 mins.
  3. Add cabbage,vinegar & salt.
  4. Cook,stirring frequently,for 2 mins.,or until cabbage has wilted.
  5. Add the cider and caraway seeds & bring to a boil.
  6. Lower the heat & simmer the kraut for about 10 mins., until the cabbage is tender and a few tbsp. of the juice remain.
