Ingredients

  • 3 slice
    bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 small
    onion, sliced
  • 1 can(s)
    water chestnuts, sliced
  • 1 1-lb can(s)
    cut green beans
  • 2 tsp
    cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    vinegar

How to Make Pennsylvania Dutch Green Beans

Step-by-Step

  1. Brown onion and water chestnuts slightly in hot bacon fat.
  2. Drain beans, saving 1/2 cup liquid.
  3. Mix liquid with remaining ingredients and add to onion in skillet.
  4. Cook, stirring until mixture boils.
  5. Add beans and heat thoroughly.
  6. Serve garnished with crumbled bacon.
