My favorite green beans! My Greek mother and grandmother made these with roast lamb since I can remember. It's surprising how just four ingredients can taste so Greek!

added my picture where I used a pound of frozen French sliced green beans and diced tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 large
    onion, chopped
  • 1 can(s)
    tomato sauce or diced tomatoes
  • ·
    cinnamon, just a sprinkle
  • 1 lb
    string beans or frozen green beans, your choice
  • ·
    olive oil or vegetable oil

How to Make Mom's Greek String Beans

Step-by-Step

  1. Clean the green beans or defrost frozen green beans.
  2. Heat 1/4 inch oil in a large pan, add onions.
  3. Cook until onions are just about to brown.
    Sprinkle with a little cinnamon. (this is how I was taught)
  4. Add the tomato sauce or diced tomatoes, which I prefer.
    Bring to a boil.
  5. Add the green beans and simmer for 20-25 minutes, covered.
