Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage, shredded
  • 1 can cream of celery soup or cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 sleeves ritz crackers, crushed
  • 1 - 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 can french fried onion rings
  • 1 small onion, minced (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make layered cabbage casserole

  • Step 1
    Chop cabbage and saute in butter until tender. Season cabbage with salt and pepper.
  • Step 2
    Drain cabbage - reserving 1/2 cup cooking liquid. Place a layer of cabbage, in greased casserole dish, followed by a layer of cracker crumbs, then a layer of grated cheese.
  • Step 3
    Repeat layers. Mix soup with cabbage both and mix well. Pour soup mixture over casserole. Top with any remaining cracker crumbs and french-fried onion rings.
  • Step 4
    Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and hot.
