This recipe is a nice change from the usual baked beans that show up at BBQs or pot luck dinners! Has a sweet & sour taste thanks to a sugar and vinegar sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 can kidney beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can green beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can lima beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can wax beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can garbanzo beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 4 slices bacon, crumbled
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

How To Make hot 5-bean salad

  • Step 1
    In a large skillet, cook 4-8 slices of bacon until crisp. Crumble bacon for later. Pour off all but 1/4 cup drippings.
  • Step 2
    Combine in skillet sugar, cornstarch, salt and pepper. Stir in vinegar and water. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  • Step 3
    Add all the beans to the skillet, stirring to mix.
  • Step 4
    Reduce heat and cover. Simmer 20 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Turn into a serving dish and top with bacon crumbles. Enjoy!
