Ingredients
- 8 slices bacon, diced (see note)
- 1 medium onion, minced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 - 16 oz. packages butter beans, frozen
- 12 cups water
- 1/4 cup butter, cold
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
How To Make home-style butterbeans

Step 1Cook bacon & onion in a large dutch oven over medium heat 7 minutes. Add brown sugar & cook; stirring occasionally, 2 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Stir in butter beans & butter until butter is melted & beans are thoroughly coated. Stir in 12 C. water.

Step 2Bring to a boil over medium-high heat; reduce heat to low & simmer, stirring occasionally, 2 hours or until beans are very tender & liquid is thickened & just below top of beans. Stir in salt & pepper.
