Baked beans are a staple at any and all cook outs here in NJ. I am not a baked bean fan, but I made these once and now I am always asked to bring these to a covered dish or a cookout. Everyone loves the pineapple & ham that is included. I hope you enjoy them as much as they have been enjoyed by my friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 1
#10 can of your favorite pork & beans
  • 1 medium
    onion, diced
  • 1/2
    green pepper, diced
  • 1/2 lb
    ham, chopped or shaved
  • 1/2 -3/4 c
    dark brown sugar
  • 1
20 ounce can of pineapple tid-bits or chunks, drained
  • 3/4 c
    ketchup

How to Make Hawaiian Baked Beans

Step-by-Step

  1. Drain the excess liquid from the pork & beans
  2. Combine all the ingredients together, stirring well until combined
  3. Place in crock pot / slow cooker and cook on HIGH for at least 5 hours, stirring occasionally. After about three hours, tilt the lid on the slow cooker so steam can escape allowing the beans to thicken. The longer they cook in the crock pot / slow cooker, the thicker they get.
  4. You can bake these in the oven as well. Cooked bacon can be substituted for the ham
  5. Enjoy at your favorite cook out or BBQ.
