greens with ham hocks and smoked turkey

I love greens and a friend of mine had given me this recipe a few years back, I think they're just great.The longer you simmer this the tastier they are.

Ingredients

  • 4 bunches mixed greens cleaned and steamed
  • 1/2 pound bacon chopped 1" pieces
  • 1 - smoked ham hock
  • - smoked turkey necks or leg
  • 2 medium onions chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 bunch green onions chopped (optional)
  • 7 cups water
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • - salt & pepper to taste

How To Make greens with ham hocks and smoked turkey

  • Step 1
    if leaves are large cut in half
  • Step 2
    cook the bacon in a large stock pot.
  • Step 3
    add water, broth, and vinegar to pot and bring to a boil.
  • Step 4
    add ham hock and smoked turkey, onions,garlic, salt and pepper.Let mixture boil for ten minutes.
  • Step 5
    add greens and bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 4 - 5 hrs or until well cooked and most of the water is cooked away
