This was my Aunt Vera's recipe. The first time I had it was in 1978. It's just a little different from the usual green bean casserole, It is delicious. I have probably made this recipe more than any other over the years.

Ingredients

  • 1 can(s)
    cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 c
    cream or milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 c
    cheddar cheese
  • 4 c
    green beans
  • 2 Tbsp
    chopped pimento, optional
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 c
    melted butter
  • ·
    bread crumbs

How to Make Green Bean Casserole

Step-by-Step

  1. Melt the butter and mix in the flour. When smooth add the soup and milk. Cook until thickened. Add the Worcestershire sauce. Add the cheese and stir until melted. Add the salt and pepper. Add the pimento, if using. Combine sauce with the green beans. Place in a casserole dish. Combine the melted butter with bread crumbs and top the casserole. Bake in a 350 degree oven until bubbly, about 30 minutes. Note: You can also use Velveeta cheese in this recipe, or whatever type cheese you like.
