This is the way that I fry most fresh vegetables to include green beans, zucchini, cucumbers, etc. Even my kids that do not eat squash will eat these.

Ingredients

  • 6 - yellow squash
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup corn meal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

How To Make fried squash

  • Step 1
    Wash the squash and slice them into 1/4 inch slices. Cover with ice water for 30 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Drain. Pour buttermilk over squash and soak for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Combine meal, flour, and salt in another bowl.
  • Step 4
    Add squash slices a few at a time until coated.
  • Step 5
    Fry squash in hot grease, one layer at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
