This is the way that I fry most fresh vegetables to include green beans, zucchini, cucumbers, etc. Even my kids that do not eat squash will eat these.

How to Make Fried Squash

Step-by-Step

  1. Wash the squash and slice them into 1/4 inch slices. Cover with ice water for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain. Pour buttermilk over squash and soak for 30 minutes.
  3. Combine meal, flour, and salt in another bowl.
  4. Add squash slices a few at a time until coated.
  5. Fry squash in hot grease, one layer at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
