This is how my Grandmother, my Mother , and all my Aunts and Uncles cook it. If it ain't broke.....DON'T FIX IT.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup corn oil for frying
  • 5 medium squash, fresh
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal (in my opinion, it makes a difference)
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • - salt and pepper

How To Make fried squash

  • Step 1
    wash and cut the squash in about 1/2 inch slices
  • Step 2
    mix all dry ingredients
  • Step 3
    dredge squash in cornmeal mixture and place in hot oil about 400 degrees,in a single layer, until golden brown
  • Step 4
    i use a cast iron skillet but my aunts all use electric skillets but long as it is fried golden, its gonna be good.
