  • 3
    large, green tomatoes
  • 1
    egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 c
  • 3/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 c
    corn meal
  • salt
    to taste
  • pepper
    to taste
  • ·
    vegetable oil for frying

How to Make Fried Green Tomatoes


  1. Wash tomatoes in cold water, and get very dry. Slice tomatoes very thin. Set aside.
  2. Mix milk and egg together in a small bowl; then mix flour and cornmeal together in another bowl.
  3. Dip tomatoe slices in egg mixture and dredge in flour mixture. Shake off excess and fry in hot oil a minute or two on each side or until golden brown and crisp.
  4. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt & pepper.
