fried green tomatoes
This is a wonderful Southern dish that I grew up enjoying. My mother used to always cook these in the summertime when she had an abundance of tomatoes and I have never gotten tired of them. They don't work with ripe tomatoes, only green. If you have never had them before, give them a try and put a little south in your mouth....

Ingredients
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- - one inch of oil coming up side of skillet
How To Make fried green tomatoes

Step 1Note: You can pan fry these, but they are crispier fried in a lot of oil or deep fried.

Step 2Combine egg and milk and set aside. Combine cornmeal, flour, salt and pepper.

Step 3Dip the tomato slices in the milk and egg and dredge in the cornmeal mixture. Drop in hot oil, a few at a time and fry until brown. Keep warm in oven, until you have fried them all.
