My mom made this often when I was growing up. It was always a favorite at the table. Once I got married, I started making it for my family and it has now become a favorite of my kids and husband! Enjoy!

Ingredients For fried cabbage

  • 1 lg
head of cabbage, chopped in bite size
  • 1 lb
    bacon, any flavor or cut
  • 2 md
    potatoes, cubed
  • 10
    snack size carrots, cut
  • 1/2 sm
    sweet or vidalia onion
  • 1/4 tsp
    cracked black pepper

How To Make fried cabbage

  • 1
    Use a large deep skillet. I use a 12" x 3" non stick(Paula Dean )
  • 2
Cook 1lb bacon until crispy. Remove from skillet BUT leave bacon fat in pan.
  • 3
Add your chopped cabbage to the skillet (don't worry about how full it is, it will cook down) cover with lid and let cook on medium low stirring occasionally.
  • 4
While cabbage is cooking, chop bacon up into small pieces. Not forgetting to stir your cabbage while chopping. Add to cabbage once the cabbage has cooked down a little then cover and continue cooking and stirring occasionally.
  • 5
Prep the carrots, onion & potatoes. Then add to the skillet with bacon and cabbage. The whole cooking process will be about an hour and a half. So worth the wait!
  • 6
    Stir, serve and enjoy!
