My mom made this often when I was growing up. It was always a favorite at the table. Once I got married, I started making it for my family and it has now become a favorite of my kids and husband! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 large
head of cabbage, chopped in bite size
  • 1 lb
    bacon, any flavor or cut
  • 2 medium
    potatoes, cubed
  • 10
    snack size carrots, cut
  • 1/2 small
    sweet or vidalia onion
  • 1/4 tsp
    cracked black pepper

How to Make Fried Cabbage

Step-by-Step

  1. Use a large deep skillet. I use a 12" x 3" non stick(Paula Dean )
  2. Cook 1lb bacon until crispy. Remove from skillet BUT leave bacon fat in pan.
  3. Add your chopped cabbage to the skillet (don't worry about how full it is, it will cook down) cover with lid and let cook on medium low stirring occasionally.
  4. While cabbage is cooking, chop bacon up into small pieces. Not forgetting to stir your cabbage while chopping. Add to cabbage once the cabbage has cooked down a little then cover and continue cooking and stirring occasionally.
  5. Prep the carrots, onion & potatoes. Then add to the skillet with bacon and cabbage. The whole cooking process will be about an hour and a half. So worth the wait!
  6. Stir, serve and enjoy!
