We grew up on all sorts of fresh vegetables from the garden my dad and mon planted each year. There is nothing like fresh green beans. I always have to buy a big bag full in order to last in my house. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lb
fresh green beans, wash, tips off and break in half
  • 1 large
    onion chopped
  • 3-4
pieces of turkey or pork bacon cooked crispy
  • 3 clove
    fresh garlic chopped
  • 1/4 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 3+ Tbsp
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1-2 pkg
herb ox sodium free granulated chicken bouillon
  • 1-2 c
    chicken broth/stock

How to Make Fresh Green Beans

Step-by-Step

  1. I clean the beans in vinegar and rinse off with water. Break off tips and break in half if the beans are long. Set aside.
  2. Cook the bacon until crispy, but not overdone. You can also use cooked ham for this recipe by browning the ham in a little olive oil.
  3. In a large pot, cook onion in 2 tablespoons of olive oil for a few minutes, add the fresh garlic and continue cooking until tender. Add the 2 packages of Herb Ox chicken bouillon to the onions and garlic and stir well. Add about 2 cups of the chicken broth/stock to the onions. Once it comes to a boil, add your green beans, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, turn heat down to medium.
  4. Let the beans cook about half an hour and stir a few times, then add your meat by crumbling the bacon pieces or the chopped ham, stirring a few times during cooking. Add a drizzle of olive oil and cook until tender.
