My mom used to make her baked beans this way when we were kids. Even though this recipe calls for canned beans, by adding the other ingredients and cooking slowly for a little while, it tastes like you've been cooking all day. The picture is from the internet for illustration only.

  • 1/2 lb
    thick sliced bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 can(s)
    (32 oz) baked beans or pork 'n beans
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/3 c
    brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/3 c
    maple syrup
  • ·
    tabasco sauce to taste (optional)

How to Make Easy Baked Beans

Step-by-Step

  1. In a large soup pot of dutch oven, add the bacon and cook over medium heat just until the fat begins to render, about 4 minutes.
  2. Add baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, syrup and tabasco sauce to taste; cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hr. Stir occasionally to keep beans from sticking or scortching.
