My mother made these every holiday and now her daughters and granddaughters do too! Not sure where it originated from but Mom said she got it from her ex-inlaws who lived in Oklahoma. They are always a hit, even with people who don't like peas and so simple to make!! :)

le sueur very early young tender peas.

How to Make Cheese Peas

Step-by-Step

  1. Dice cheese into small cubes for easy melting. Open and drain peas completely.
  2. Pour evaporated milk into a medium saucepan. Over medium/low heat add a few cubes of cheese at a time, stirring constantly until all of the cheese is melted into the sauce.
  3. When all the cheese has been incorporated, carefully add the peas. Gently stir with a wooden spoon so you don't crush the peas. Continue gently stirring until the peas have heated through.
  4. Serve right away or in a chafing dish so the cheese remains warm.
