  • 2 medium
    chayote, peeled and sliced thin
  • 2 Tbsp
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1/2 c
    onion, chopped
  • 1 clove
    garlic, chopped fine
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
    red pepper flakes
  • 2 Tbsp
    lime juice

How to Make Chayote - Nicaraguan Style


  1. Heat butter and olive oil over medium high heat. Add onion and garlic, saute until soft.
  2. When onion is slightly brown, stir in chayote, salt, pepper, sugar and pepper flakes. Stir and cook for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Add lime juice, stir and cook 5 minutes longer.
    Serve as a side with chicken.
