Ingredients

  • 2 medium chayote, peeled and sliced thin
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped fine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice

How To Make chayote - nicaraguan style

  • Step 1
    Heat butter and olive oil over medium high heat. Add onion and garlic, saute until soft.
  • Step 2
    When onion is slightly brown, stir in chayote, salt, pepper, sugar and pepper flakes. Stir and cook for 5-10 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add lime juice, stir and cook 5 minutes longer. Serve as a side with chicken.
