Ingredients

  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 small onion quartered
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup each butter and flour
  • 1 head cauliflower broke into large florets

How To Make cauliflower with white sauce

  • Step 1
    Place half and half in a saucepan. Add the onion, peppercorns, bay leaves, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil over high heat. Remove from heat and let sit for at least 30 minutes. Strain the milk and discard the solids.
  • Step 2
    Add butter to a pan over med heat. Once butter melts add the flour and stir making a roux. Whisk in the strained half and half and whisk until thickened.
  • Step 3
    Cook the cauliflower in boiling salted water. Drain and serve with the sauce spooned on top.
