Ingredients

  • 12 ounces cauliflower flowerets
  • 2 - tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 ounces water chestnuts, sliced
  • 2 - green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/4 - red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 5/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • - parsley, minced

How To Make cauliflower casserole deluxe

  • Step 1
    Steam fresh cauliflower florets about 5-7 minutes or frozen florets according to package instructions just until crisp tender; drain.
  • Step 2
    Coat a saucepan with cooking spray. Saute green onions, celery and bell peppers until limp. Add seasonings.
  • Step 3
    Blend in flour and cook 1 minute. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly. Simmer until mixture thickens. Remove from heat.
  • Step 4
    Add cheese and stir until melted.
  • Step 5
    In a 2-quart baking dish, layer half the cauliflower, sliced tomatoes and water chestnuts. Pour over half the sauce. Repeat layers ending with sauce. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and parsley.
  • Step 6
    Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and top is a light golden brown.
