Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by my Aunt Evelyn.

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds yams
  • SAUCE
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup waffle syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 stick butter

How To Make candied yams

  • Step 1
    Peel and slice yams. Put in large pan with enough water to cover. Cook yams until almost done. Drain water from yams and put yams in baking dish.
  • Step 2
    Combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepan and heat until sugar melts.
  • Step 3
    Pour sauce over yams and bake at 350°F. about 1/2 hour.
