If unable to get maple-flavored bacon, use a heavier smoked bacon and add 2 tsp. maple syrup after draining grease.Stir well then add sprouts.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb
    brussel sprouts
  • 1/2 lb
    maple bacon, diced
  • 1/4 c
    shallots, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    pepper
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/4 c
    shaved sharp white cheddar cheese, optional

How to Make Brussels Sprouts with Maple Bacon and Shallots

Step-by-Step

  1. Blanch the Brussels sprouts in boiling water about 4 - 8 mins. Cool in ice water and drain well.
  2. Cook bacon until browned, remove and dice when cooled.
  3. Add shallots to pan and saute until opaque, stirring often.
  4. Drain all but 1 to 2 Tbs. of bacon grease and return to heat.
  5. Add Brussels sprouts, pepper and butter to pan and lightly saute
  6. Place in serving bowl and top with cheese if desired.
