If unable to get maple-flavored bacon, use a heavier smoked bacon and add 2 tsp. maple syrup after draining grease.Stir well then add sprouts.

Ingredients

2 lb
brussel sprouts
1/2 lb
maple bacon, diced
1/4 c
shallots, chopped
1 tsp
pepper
2 Tbsp
butter
1/4 c
shaved sharp white cheddar cheese, optional

How to Make Brussels Sprouts with Maple Bacon and Shallots

Step-by-Step

  • 1Blanch the Brussels sprouts in boiling water about 4 - 8 mins. Cool in ice water and drain well.
  • 2Cook bacon until browned, remove and dice when cooled.
  • 3Add shallots to pan and saute until opaque, stirring often.
  • 4Drain all but 1 to 2 Tbs. of bacon grease and return to heat.
  • 5Add Brussels sprouts, pepper and butter to pan and lightly saute
  • 6Place in serving bowl and top with cheese if desired.
