brussels sprouts with maple bacon and shallots

If unable to get maple-flavored bacon, use a heavier smoked bacon and add 2 tsp. maple syrup after draining grease.Stir well then add sprouts.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds brussel sprouts
  • 1/2 pound maple bacon, diced
  • 1/4 cup shallots, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup shaved sharp white cheddar cheese, optional

How To Make brussels sprouts with maple bacon and shallots

  • Step 1
    Blanch the Brussels sprouts in boiling water about 4 - 8 mins. Cool in ice water and drain well.
  • Step 2
    Cook bacon until browned, remove and dice when cooled.
  • Step 3
    Add shallots to pan and saute until opaque, stirring often.
  • Step 4
    Drain all but 1 to 2 Tbs. of bacon grease and return to heat.
  • Step 5
    Add Brussels sprouts, pepper and butter to pan and lightly saute
  • Step 6
    Place in serving bowl and top with cheese if desired.
