My husband always loves it when I make this and people always are asking me for the recipe. It's pretty easy and works great as a side dish.

Green bean casserole is a holiday staple and this recipe really is beyond yummy. Using fresh green beans and a homemade sauce is what makes this green bean casserole recipe so delicious. We were impressed by how quick the sauce is to make and the casserole is easy to put together. We loved the cheesy, buttery, and crunchy topping. It's sooo good!

  • 2 Tbsp
  • 2 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/4 c
    white onion, chopped
  • 1 c
    sour cream
  • 3 3/4 c
    fresh green beans, chopped
  • 2 1/2 c
    shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 c
    butter crackers, crushed
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter, melted

Test Kitchen Tips
This makes enough to fill a 9x9 baking pan. Double the recipe and use a 9x13 pan if you're cooking for a crowd (or want seconds).
  • Melting butter in a skillet.
    Pre-heat oven to 350F/175C. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large pan over medium heat.
  • Flour added to the butter.
    Stir in flour until smooth.
  • Salt, sugar, onion, and sour cream added to the skillet.
    Add and mix in the salt, sugar, onion, and sour cream.
  • Green beans added to the pan.
    Add the green beans.
  • Mixing the sauce and green beans together.
    Stir to coat well.
  • Green beans poured into a casserole dish.
    Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  • Cheese sprinkled on top.
    Spread shredded cheese over the top.
  • Mixing crushed crackers and butter in a bowl.
    In a small bowl, toss together cracker crumbs and the 1 tbsp melted butter.
  • Crackers sprinkled over the cheese.
    Sprinkle this over the cheese.
  • Casserole baked until golden brown.
    Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
