Ingredients

  • 16 oz
    canned beets, sliced, undrained
  • 1 medium
    onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 c
    cider vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 tsp
    celery seeds
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper

How to Make Beets and Onions

Step-by-Step

  1. Drain beets, reserving juice. Combine the liquid with sugar, mustard, vinegar and celery seeds in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir to dissolve sugar and mustard. Add onion, salt and pepper; simmer 3-4 minutes, or until onion is slightly wilted. Remove from heat.
  2. Combine with beets in a mixing bowl. Cool. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
