Ingredients

  • 16 ounces canned beets, sliced, undrained
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

How To Make beets and onions

  • Step 1
    Drain beets, reserving juice. Combine the liquid with sugar, mustard, vinegar and celery seeds in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir to dissolve sugar and mustard. Add onion, salt and pepper; simmer 3-4 minutes, or until onion is slightly wilted. Remove from heat.
  • Step 2
    Combine with beets in a mixing bowl. Cool. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
