Ingredients

1 medium
cabbage, chopped
1 tsp
salt
3 Tbsp
butter
3 Tbsp
flour
2 c
milk
salt and pepper
1 c
cheese, shredded
3 slice
bread -- buttered or plain

How to Make Baked Cabbage

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven 375.
    In a large pot over medium heat; add cabbage and salt, with enough water to cover the cabbage. Bring to a boil and cook cabbage until tender; drain and set aside.
  • 2In a saucepan over low heat; add butter to melt. Stir in flour. Add milk slowly stir and bring to a boil. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Set aside.
  • 3Grease 2 quart casserole dish. Layer cabbage and shredded cheese alternating layers ending up with cabbage on top. Carefully pour the milk sauce over the cabbage.
  • 4Cut the bread into bite size pieces and place them on top of the cabbage.
  • 5Place the casserole dish on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Bake 20-25 minutes or until hot.
