Bacon And Onion Green Beans

Tammy Brownlow

When the green beans are ready to be picked - this is one of my go-to recipes. Green beans and bacon are a perfect match. The ham hock gives the beans a smoky flavor that just gets better with time. I like to sprinkle the bacon pieces over the top. They add a nice crispy touch to the tender green beans. You can easily double or triple the recipe if you have a large family or a get together. Everyone will love them!

3 clove
garlic minced
1 lb
fresh green beans, cut into bite sized pieces
ham hock, smoked
salt and pepper to taste
1 Tbsp

1In a medium sauce pan on medium low heat, render bacon until crisp, but not burnt.
2Remove from pan and drain on paper towels.
3Add onion, garlic, green beans, and ham hock to pan. Add 1 cup of water.
4Add pepper, and just a little salt. The bacon grease and ham hock will add some smoky-salty flavor.
5Cook until green beans are tender about 30 minutes. Add butter and allow to melt. Taste for seasoning. When serving sprinkle the bacon pieces over the top. Enjoy with all of your favorite Southern dishes, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn bread - good eaten my friends!
