This is my first posting....I grow my own collards, and use this recipe all the time to feed my Husband, 6 children,and 12 grand children, plus all the in laws...we love Collards cooked this way...This is a main course in our house, served with sweet corn bread and sweet tea.hope you enjoy them too

  • ·
    two chopped onions
  • ·
    6 chicken boulion cubes
  • ·
    1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • ·
    1 full stick of butter
  • ·
    one package precooked bacon, cut up
  • ·
    1 batch of collards, cleaned and trimmed
  • ·
    6 cups water...add more as needed
  • ·
    1 teaspoon mortons seasoning salt
  • ·
    1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ·
    1 cup diced ham

How to Make Strickland Southern Collards


  1. add butter, onions,and bacon to pot,and simmer till butter is melted,and onion are soft
  2. add water, bouillon cubes, seasonings, and apple cider vinegar...bring to boil
  3. Add Collard Greens...reduce to medium heat so you don't scorch them,and cook for several hours until tender...serve with sweet cornbread...YUM
