When I was a child my mom worked at a restaurant called Southern Trails. I would wait up for her to come home with some of their leftover Green Beans. We have these every holiday. I think they are even better the next day.

Ingredients

butter, melted
1 large
onion
3 Tbsp
dried parsley flakes
1 pinch
salt
8 Tbsp
flour
4 c
water to cover
6 can(s)
green beans
6 oz
ham or bacon

chicken bouillon cubes
1 tsp
garlic salt
pepper to taste

How to Make Southern Trails Green Beans

Step-by-Step

  • 1Place a Dutch oven over medium high heat, add butter and melt.
  • 2When the butter is melted add the onions and parsley and with a large pinch of salt.
  • 3Cook, stirring occasionally until the onions are tender and translucent, 5 to 8 minutes.
  • 4Next whisk in the flour, being sure to coat the onions. Cook for about 30 seconds then whisk in the water.
  • 5Add green beans, ham, chicken bouillon cubes, garlic salt and pepper to taste.
  • 6Simmer uncovered for 3 – 4 hours till the green beans are tender and the gravy is thickened.
