I am a Southern gal and I do love some bacon in my green beans. This is a good recipe that get better with some time. Cook them a day ahead and then reheat to serve. They are better when flavors blend. Ummmm.

- 8 slices (srips) jowl bacon
- 5 cups low-sodium chicken stock
- 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
- 4 cups green beans, fresh or frozen
- 1 - ham hock, smoked - optional
How To Make southern style green beans

Step 1Crisp the bacon in large skillet on medium-high heat. When the bacon is ready add the rest of the ingredients. Cook at low heat for 2 hours adding water if necessary.

Step 2If allowing to chill for 24 hours, when reheating taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to your taste.
